We try to have a lot of fun at this ol’ bicycle shop. Some events happen regularly, some are one of a kind. Take a gander at the list below and get on down here!
Starting in September we’re switching to our fall/winter hours and will be here Tuesday-Friday 9a-6p; Saturdays 9a-5p.
September 27th: Pedal Happy Potluck // 7-9pm
Come join us for our monthly Pedal Happy Potluck! Show up at 7 with a vegetarian dish or snack to share. We will discuss what is happening in the Omaha bike community and ways to improve it!
October 5th: Benson First Friday Art Show with Paintings by Christy Murphy & Alley Extravaganza // 5-8pm
Join us for a Benson First Friday art event at Omaha Bicycle Company. Christy is visually impaired but an amazing artist regardless! We’ll also be celebrating the potential of our unique alley ways. The one behind the shop will be closed for a festival this night as well. So much to see! Come check it out!
October 20th: Benson Book Club-The Far Away Brothers // by Dundee Book Company // 1pm
Join us for our newest book club (with a focus on activism and community engagement) and a spirited discussion of THE FAR AWAY BROTHERS: TWO YOUNG MIGRANTS AND THE MAKING OF AN AMERICAN LIFE by Lauren Markham.
We meet the third Saturday of every even-numbered month–ie, October 20, December 15, etc.–so if you can’t make it this month, we hope to see you soon.
Buy a copy of THE FAR AWAY BROTHERS in-store at Omaha Bicycle Company, online (https://dundeebook.co/the-far-away-brothers-october-benson-book-club-selection/) or get a discounted copy at one of our upcoming events.
We host a variety of weekly rides in addition to co-hosting and promoting community bike-related events. There’s something for every level of experience and interest. Check out what we have to offer and come ride with us sometime!
Every Saturday morning // 9a: We start the weekend right with a little casual ramble to the park. Meet us at the shop around 9am and aim to roll by 9:15. It’s a really fun & slow social ride to Elmwood Park (and beyond if you so desire) and then back to Benson. Sarah leads the ride and has to get back to the shop by about 10:30 but some folks keep on riding the Keystone, some come back when she does. It’s mostly a motivator to get yer buns out of bed and onto a bike saddle. Join in the fun! #coffeeoutside
Every Tuesday Night // Ladies’ Ride // 6p: Meet here at the shop and we’ll roll out at 6 o’clock for an approachable ride that’s attainable for all sorts of riders (less than 10 miles usually). We typically end up at the Benson Brewery afterward for a drink and/or snack. A quick note about this ride: we welcome all riders who identify as femme and nonbinary on the Tuesday night ride. We strive to cultivate an inclusive, judgement-free environment where we can simply experience the ride and pursue joy. Have questions? Don’t hesitate to ask!
Every Thursday Night // Road Ride 6p: Jim, our A++ mechanic leads the weekly Thursday Night Ride. We roll out of OBC at 6 pm sharp! This is a no-drop ride, about 20-25 miles, typically easy with a couple of climbs but no more than 1,000 feet. Make sure to grab your lights, water and dress accordingly as we transition into the autumn months. Be ready for a beer and a bite at the Benson Brewery afterward.
Every Thursday Night // Geezer Ride 6:30p: Some of our customers are putting together a slower paced ride for those who like to take it easy! Join them at the shop every Thursday night at 6:30 for a casual ride over to Aksarben.
Full Moon! We ride bikes in the moonlight once a month. Meet at the OBC back deck at 7pm and we’ll roll bar to bar. This is a fun, casual bar crawl with short rides between stops. Spread the word and join in the fun!
Pedal Happy Potluck: The last Thursday of every month we meet here at 7pm. Bring a dish and/or drink to share! Everyone is encouraged to share what they know about what is happening around the city as it pertains to bicycle advocacy. We scheme on ideas to help make Omaha more bike friendly and plan events to enjoy ourselves along the way. There’s also generally a Mode Shift Omaha update. #pedalhappy
